Rio Tinto Kennecott is a fully integrated mining operation located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, US. Kennecott is a wholly owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto. For more than 110 years, Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich orebody of the Bingham Canyon Mine.

The mine was eventually bought by the Kennecott Company in 1936. The Bingham Mine set new world records during World War II for producing the largest amount of copper used by United States Allies. Today the mine is the second largest supplier of copper in the United States, it provides about 18-25% of all the copper for the countries needs.
